Gandhi Study Circle of the college provides an active platform to the students to express diverse opinions on different topics going beyond mere promotion of Gandhian values. The main aim and objective of this circle is to promote Gandhian Values and Nation Building. The Circle of the College has been organizing Talks, Seminars, National Seminars & conducting Quiz Competitions, Essay Writing Competitions, Debates, Inter-College Debates & Paper-Presentations for the last several years. Report of the activities/events of the last session 2018-19 is as under:
I. National Seminar on "Understanding Gandhi": Gandhi Study Circle of the College successfully organised a one day National Seminar on 24.08.2018 on "Understanding Gandhi" in collaboration with Gandhi Smriti and DarshanSamiti". Seminar was organised in two Sessions. In session I - three speakers - Sh. Mahesh Sharma (EX. MP Rajyasabha), Prof. Ramesh Bhardwaj, Director, Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi and Dr.VedabhyasKundu, Program officer, Gandhi Smriti and DarshanSamiti were not only delivered their talk but interacted well with the teachers and students. More than 140 students and faculty attended the seminar from different colleges of Delhi University. In the second session - ShriAchyutanand Mishra, Ex. Vice Chancellor MakhanLalChaturvediRastriyaPatrakaritaEvamJansancharvishwavidyalaya, Bhopal, M.P, and Dr.AvnijeshAwasthi, Associate Professor, PGDAV College delivered their speech in detail and answered the queries of the teachers and students on Gandhi's Life and Principles.
II. Peace Rally: Gandhi Study Circle organised a Peace Rally on "Mission Non-violence" on 10th October 2018 from college to south campus on the occasion of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. More than 700 students including teachers participated in the Peace Rally. Coverage of this Peace Rally was published in the Hindustan newspaper. The Video Clip of this rally was also prepared by the college.
III. Photo and Video Exhibition on Gandhi: Gandhi Study Circle exhibited the Photos and Videos on Gandhian Values from 22-30 October 2018. This was open to our students and was also presented before the NAAC Peer Team. The NAAC peer Team appreciated the work being done by the college to imbibe the values and thoughts of Gandhi among students.
IV. Tribute to Gandhi on his Death Anniversary by observing silence: College organised a program on the Death Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 30th January 2018 for paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Since Convener of Gandhi Study Circle was busy at Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi, Co-Convener Dr. S.C. Dabas organised this program and Principal addressed the students and advised them to follow Gandhi Ji in true spirit.
V. A video made on Youth perspective about Gandhi: A Video of 45 minutes duration was prepared in February 2019 on "The ways of understanding Ghandhi among Youth" by Media Centre of BJMC. Students of our college highlighted the views of Mahatma and their own understanding about him. This video was so much appreciated by The Director, Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Smiti that he allowed its uploaded on the website of Gandhi Samriti and Darshan Samiti. VI. Peace rally on the Death Anniversary of Baa: A program was organised by the college on 22nd February 2019 on the 75th Death Anniversary of Kasturba Gandhi for paying tribute to Kasturba Gandhi. Program was followed by a Peace Rally from college to South Campus in which more than 500 students including teachers participated.
VII. Inter-College competition of Paper presentation by students: Gandhi Study Circle conducted an inter-college competition of paper presentation on "Gandhi Ke Sapno Ka Bharat" on 26th February 2019 in collaboration with Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi. More than 40 colleges of Delhi University participated in it. Cash Prize and Merit Certificate were given to the participants who secured positions in it by the Director of Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, Dr. Dipankar Sri Gyan.
VIII. Seminar on Gandhi Ke Sapno Ka Bharat: A seminar was organised on 5th March 2019 on the same Topic "Gandhi Ke Sapno Ka Bharat". Dr. Dipankar Sri Gyan, Director of Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti not only delivered a Talk on the topic but interacted with the students of RLA College. This was also published in newspaper.
IX Inter-College Debate Competition and A talk on Gandhi and Cleanliness: An Inter-College Debate Competition titled as "How far Gandhian Cleanliness are relevant in Present Society" on 30th September, 2019. More than 25 teams participated in the competition. Just after a day on 1st October, 2019, a talk was organized on "Gandhi and Cleanliness." Prof Subrata Mukherjee delivered aforementioned talk and prizes were given to those students by him who secured 1st, 2nd & 3rd positions in the Debate Competition held on 30.09.2019.
X An International Conference on Gandhi across the Boundries: International Conference was organized by the Circle on 23rd and 24th October, 2019. Seven sessions were held including inaugural and valedictory. In this conference, the Chief Guest H.E. Honourable Faduma Abdullahi Mohamud,Ambassador of Somalia, Dr. Rajdeep Pathak, Guest of Honour Programme Executive, Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti and Prof. Ramesh Bhardwaj, Director of Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi were present. The key speaker of the first day 23.10.2019 were Prof. Sahil Mishra, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Ambedkar University, New Delhi; Prof. Vighnesh Kumar, CCSU, Meerut; and the session was chaired by Prof. Vighnesh Kumar & Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Principal, Mata Sundari College.
On second day, III, IV & V Sessions were held. The key speakers were Prof. Subrata Mukherjee, Dr. Hoimanti Barua (foreign scholar of Bangladesh), Prof. Sanjay Bhardwaj, SIS, JNU delivered their lectures.
Session III chaired by Prof. Subrata Mukherjee, Session IV by Prof. Sanjay Bhardwaj and Session V by Dr. Manoj Sinha, Principal, Aryabhatta College. The last valedictory session was held and chaired by the Chairman, Governing Body of the College - Shri Daya Prakash Sinha. The valedictory session was addressed by two well-known foreign and one Indian Gandhian Scholar.
They are:-
I: Convenor and all other members of Gandhi Study Circle including 18 students participated in the National Seminar Organised by Gandhi Bhawan, Delhi University from 1st October 2018 to 2nd October 2018.
II: Our 25 students of Gandhi Study Circle participated in the Play Competition on 23rd August, 2018 at Shankar Lal Hall, University of Delhi related to the life of Mahatma Gandhi under the guidance of Dr. Archna Gaur. This play was very much praised by the audience. It was organized by Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi.
III: Dr. Devendra Kumar, Convener of Gandhi Study Circle was nominated as Deputy Coordinator for the winter school workshop on "The Making of Individual And Society" by the Director of Gandhi Bhawan from 21st January to 30th January 2019. This workshop was organised by Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi.
IV: The Convener of Gandhi Study Circle, Dr. Devendra Kumar was also nominated as coordinator for one of the events "Essay Writing Competition" in Gandhi Week organised by Gandhi Bhawan, Delhi University from 30th January to 5th Febuary 2019.
V: Essay Writing Competition on "Relevance of Gandhian Thought Today" was organised at RLA College in which more than 500 students from various colleges of Delhi University participated.
VI: Dr. Devendra Kumar was nominated by the Director of Gandhi Bhawan, Dr. Ramesh Bhardwaj to give a vote of thanks in one of the sessions in two days International Conference on "Legacies of Gandhi and Mandela and its contemporary Relevance". This conference was organised by Gandhi Bhawan, Delhi University from 18th July 2019 to 19th July 2019.
VII: A big programme was held at Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi on 2nd October, 2019. It is a matter of pride that the Principal of the College, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Gupta and Convenor of Gandhi Study Circle, Dr. Devendra Kumar awarded by the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Yogesh Tyagi.
Gandhi Study Circle of the college consisting of 12 members and 7 student representatives provides an active platform to the students to express diverse opinions on different topics going beyond mere promotion of Gandhian values. The main aim and objective of this circle is to promote Gandhian values and nation building. It has been organizing lectures, seminars, national seminars and conducting Quiz competitions, Essay writing competition and paper presentations from time to time for the last several years.
PA quiz competition was conducted on 05.10.2016 by Gandhi Study Circle into two phases-Preliminary written test and oral test. On the basis of the marks students were given cash prizes and merit certificates. A seminar on "Gandhian Values in Contemporary Indian Society" was organized on 18.01.2017 in the college in which the director of Gandhi Bhawan, Delhi University, Professor Anita Sharma not only delivered her lecture but well interacted with the students.
Members and students of Gandhi Study Circle also joined Gandhi Bhawan, Delhi University on 30.01.2017 on Martyr's Day which was observed by Gandhi Bhawan.
Gandhi Study Circle of our college conducted an essay writing competition and paper presentation on 16.10.2017 for which funds were sectioned by Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi.
meeting of conveners of various colleges of Delhi University was held on 28.11.2017 at Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi to chalk out various programmes of Gandhi Bhawan and colleges of D.U. also. As per the decision a Quiz competition was held on 17.01.2018 at Gandhi Bhawan in which our students participated and some MCQs with answers were sent to Gandhi Bhawan by the Convener of Gandhi Study Circle of our college, Dr. Devendra Kumar for this quiz.
A seminar titled as "Interpreting Gandhi in the Contemporary Indian Society" was held on 28.02.2018 in which the Director of Gandhi Bhawan, Prof. Ramesh Bhardwaj not only delivered a talk but interacted with students also. Just before a day on 27.02.2018 an essay writing competition was conducted on "Gandhian Values and thoughts in the present Indian Society." 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes were given to the students by Prof. Ramesh Bhardwaj on 28.02.2018. Money was sanctioned by Gandhi Bhawan, Delhi University for the aforementioned essay writing competition and seminar. Our students also participated in the play competition on 23.08.2018 related to Gandhian Life conducted by the Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi.
Gandhi Study Circle also organized a one day National seminar on August 24, 2018 in two sessions, Session I - 10.00 am to 1.00pm and Session II- 2.00 pm to 5.00pm. In this National Seminar, teachers and scholars of various colleges of Delhi University participated. Five speakers: 1. Sh. Mahesh Sharma (Ex. M. P., Rajya Sabha) 2. Prof. Ramesh Bhardwaj, Director, Gandhi Bhawan, 3. Dr. Vedabhyas Kundu (Programme Officer, Gandhi Samriti and Darshan Samiti), 4.Sh. Achyutanand Mishra (Ex. Vice Chancellor, Makhan Lal Chaturvedi Rashtriya Patarkarita Evam Sanchar Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal, M.P), 5.Dr. Avnijesh Awasthi (Associate Professor, PGDAV College, University of Delhi) delivered their speeches. Certificates were given to all participants-teachers and students both. This National Seminar was organized in collaboration with Gandhi Samriti and Darshan Samiti. A sum of Rs. 55,000/- (Rs. Fifty Five Thousands) was sanctioned by Gandhi Samriti and Darshan Samiti for this national seminar.
An important meeting of conveners of all colleges of Delhi University with the Directors of Gandhi Bhawan and Gandhi Samriti and Darshan Samiti was held on 07.09.2018 at Gandhi Bhawan which was also attended by Convener Dr. Devendra Kumar, Co-Convener Dr. S. Dabas and member Dr. K.G. Tyagi. Several issues were discussed about the programmes and events on the occasion of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in the meeting. It is a matter of pride that Dr. Devendra Kumar was unanimously nominated as Cordinator for organizing a peace march of all colleges of South Capmus.
A two days National Seminar was held at Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi in which five members: Dr. Devendra Kumar, Dr. S.C. Dabas, Dr. Archana Gaur, Dr. K.G. Tyagi and Sh. Rajinder Singh with 18 students including students coordinators Sachin Kumar and Rahul Yadav of Gandhi Study Circle of our college participated. Peace march from Gandhi Bhawan to Vivekanand Statueand prayers also made just before this seminar on the same dates. Both these programmes were inaugurated by honourable Vice Chacellor of Delhi Unversity, Prof Yogesh Tyagi.
