AWAAZ is the Debating Society (English) of Ram Lal Anand College, University of Delhi. It was established in the year 2016, and since
then has hosted and taken part in an assortment of multiple successful events. Not letting the pandemic deter its glory, Awaaz,
under the guidance of its convenors and faculty members, has engineered competitions such as Verbatim 2.0, Speakasia, Elocution,
‘Tryst With Destiny’ Extempore debate, Intra-society Declamation, along with its first edition of Model United Nations 2021-22 and
National Youth Parliament Session 2022-23.
Its current membership of close to 25 students has been a part of regular delegations sent to inter-college and intra-college events
covering an extensive range of debating formats, including but not limited to Standard, Extempore, Impromptu, Turncoat, Lincoln Douglas,
Parliamentary debate and Model United Nations, and has also won accolades for the society and college. To name a few among many,
Azra Fayaz from B. Sc. (Honours) Microbiology, second year, secured the first position in Young Statesman Award at Sangam 2021-22 hosted by
CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bangalore, Adya V. Minaxi and Nimisha Kashyap from B. A. (Honours) Political Science, second year, were
finalist and semi-finalist in the Turncoat and Lincoln Douglas – organised for the first time in India – debates held in September 2022
under Verbum Bellum 2.0 at Amity Law School, Noida.
The students and faculty members hold regular meetings to deliberate and decide upon the society’s event calendars, upcoming events in
the debating circuit, and more. The society aims to be the stage for intelligent discussions on contemporary social issues, and an arena
to master the art of public speaking and debating with a set of structured, well-backed arguments.
