Ram Lal Anand College was founded in the year 1964 by Late Shri Ram Lal Anand, a senior advocate in the Supreme Court of India, in response to the growing social demand in the sixties for providing educational opportunities at the university level. The college was initially managed by the Ram Lal Anand College Trust. It was later taken over by the University of Delhi. Since 1973, it has been run by the University of Delhi as a University Maintained Institution.

In 1973, the college was taken over by the University of Delhi and has since being run as a University of Delhi Maintained Institution, receiving full funding from the University Grants Commission (UGC) under sections 2(f) and 12(b) of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. College is administered by a statutory Governing Body as per the University Ordinances and legislated by the Executive Council of the University of Delhi.
The college is situated in a scenic location at the foothills of the Aravalli range, near the South Campus of the University of Delhi and other higher education institutions, and is easily accessible via the Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus Metro Station on Ring Road.
The college is accredited by NAAC with an A+ Grade and holds NIRF Rank #90 (All India). All programmes offered by the college are certified under ISO 21001:2018 and ISO 9001:2015. The college is also certified as an "Eat Right Campus" under the guidelines of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Since the 2022–23 academic session, it has fully implemented the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) 2022, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, as prescribed by the University of Delhi.
Ram Lal Anand College is a multidisciplinary, co-educational institution with over 2,700 students across 14 undergraduate programmes in Humanities, Commerce, Management and Sciences, along with a postgraduate programme in Hindi. The college follows the motto "Shraddhawan Labhte Gyanam": those who work with dedication attain knowledge. It is committed to providing quality education to students from all sections of society and to cultivating critical thinking, democratic values, tolerance, empathy and sensitivity, so that its students grow into responsible citizens of the nation.
The college has a dedicated faculty of 127 highly qualified, research-oriented permanent members, most of whom hold PhDs and have national and international post-doctoral research experience. Over the past five years, the college has introduced more than 65 add-on certificate courses in collaboration with industry partners, focused on skill development. It has maintained an average pass percentage of over 91% during this period and has proudly produced university gold medallists.
The campus offers comprehensive Wi-Fi coverage and modern infrastructure, including fully air-conditioned smart classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, seminar rooms, amphitheatres, a well-stocked library and a sports ground. Ram Lal Anand College is the first institution in the University of Delhi to launch a community radio station, TARANG (FM 90.0). The college has also been recognised as a "Model College" by the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Delhi, for its excellent facilities for students with disabilities.
The college nurtures environmental awareness among its students through green practices across its premises. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has certified the college as a Solid Waste Management Champion. The Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its programme run by the Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education, has certified Ram Lal Anand College as a Sustainable Campus in recognition of its efforts in sanitation, hygiene, water, energy, greenery and waste management. Key initiatives include e-waste management, recycling of RO wastewater and paper, rainwater harvesting, solar energy generation, and composting of canteen organic waste and leaf litter through a composting machine.
Campus life at Ram Lal Anand College goes well beyond the classroom. The college is home to a wide range of student societies and clubs covering academics, literature, debating, dramatics, music, dance, fine arts, photography, entrepreneurship, social outreach and many more. Run by students under faculty guidance, these societies organise festivals, competitions, seminars, workshops and talks throughout the year, giving students room to explore their interests, build leadership and teamwork skills, and represent the college at university and national events. The college also places strong emphasis on employability through its Career counselling and placement cell and skill development initiatives. Alongside its add-on certificate courses, it offers career readiness through dedicated cells and centres. Placement and career guidance support, internships and industry interactions help students connect their academic learning with professional opportunities, so they graduate confident and ready for the world of work. Recognising the need to instil human values and ethics in young people, the college runs a well-designed, compulsory course on "Human Values, Ethics & Life Skills" for all first-year students, in addition to the prescribed curriculum. Students are also trained and encouraged to pursue innovative start-up and research ideas. The college offers a conducive environment for sports, with wide playing fields and specialised support, and is proud to be one of the leading affiliates of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and the National Service Scheme (NSS), with an impressive number of cadets and volunteers enrolling each academic year.
